Hi,

I recently tried the screwcenter, that came with my Vicmarc VM120 chuck, for the first time. Judging from the gall marks, on the screw base, where it fits in the chuck jaws, it did some spinning around while turning.

Anyone else tried the screw center in your chuck?

What are you supposed to do, really crank down, on the hex key when tightening?

How do you keep the screw from spinning while in use?

The wood screw has a flange at its base, with the screw base (and flange) behind the inner jaws, barely snug the jaws up to the screw base, and then pull the screw outward until the base flange contacts the inner face of the jaws. Then, while holding the outward pull on the screw, tighten the jaws firmly. Steel does not compress very well, so if you tighten the jaws too much, you could shear the gear teeth from the pinion. The screw base flange aligns the screw axis 90 deg to the jaws.
