I want turn a segmented bowl that will be used for salads and fruit(mostly melons). my question is will the frequent washing and juice from the melon ruin the glue joint. if so how can i prevent this.

if you use say Titebond lll which is water proof that may do it, if you use a hide glue or urethane glue that should be ok, if you use CA type glues they are impervious to citric type acids. check the mfgr's for sure. but it is the finish you need to use a food safe that will protect the wood and the joint at the same time. epoxy is is good also, but once again I have found the finish will protect everything.Surface finishes need reaplying on occasion so, were it me I would set up some tests and see what happens using as many as you are willing to test just to have a good spread.

Use T. III and see related threads for finish of choice. Hand wash and dry immediately after use (vs. letting it sit in the sink overnight).
