On my recent trip to Argentina I had the chance to demonstrate at 2 different locations. I showed them all about the 40/40 grind. On the first place there was a new Vicmarc VL 300, but a $25 Chinese bench grinder with a $2.00 wheel. The second place had a beautifully restored, well over 70 years old lathe. Looked to me a lot like an Oliver headstock and tailstock with a newer bed. There, I sharpened on a decent bench grinder that had expandable rubber wheels with made for steel grinding belts. I was surprised by the quality of this wheels. Since I have been thinking of upgrading the wheels that came with my second bench grinder, a Delta 8 in variable speed from Lowes, I decided to look into these wheels. My host contacted the distributor. Each wheel was $22 US and each belt was only $2.50 US I purchased several 120 grit, 150 and 60. They are only 6 in, but way better than what they give you with the Delta. I was wondering if anybody has seen these wheels in the woodturning world. A quick Google search and I found some very similar... I left the 60 grit on, have to sharpen a blank , it's very easy to change the belts... I will report in a few weeks, can't see or think anything negative about them , other than the 6 in diameter, but they are wide....
