Watched a you tube video on turning pens and the guy mentioned shellawax. He was vague on it use anyway while placing an order for other stuff I order Shellwax cream friction polish I figured the label would give me better idea on its use but not really. Is this a finish it self or is it more of a buffing compound ? how is this stuff used? any help would be great
 
Using shellawax

Here is what I do sand to 400- to 600. First apply EEE, usually sold with shellawax. Rub a thin coat and use same paper towel- no rags please- spin on the lathe at about 100. The EEE has some fine grit in it and prepares the surface for shellawax. To use the wax, use paper towel and wipe on a coat evenly. do it quickly as you may think you have a goo mess. So again use same towel, turn on lathe and crank it up fast- I use 2500 RPM and hold the towel until you feel heat- it is the heat from friction that spreads the wax film ad creates he shine. If the finish is spotty or uneven, repeat a thin coat
 
as a pen finish, I think it is marginal. It will wear off easily and collect dirt/sweat off hands. Easy to use & looks ok for awhile.

The name comes from concatenating shellac and wax. HUT Crystal Coat is a similar friction finish containing shellac and wax. While they are useful for finishing some things, they are both at the bottom of my list for finishing pens.
 
I'm with Bill on the use for pens a shellac finish on pens over a short time will be damaged by the oil and sweat or moisture from fingers. Check out their web site that is on the container and it will give you all the info you want for all their products.
