I use the skew chisel quite often, I have found that an angle skew with a rounded "heel" is the most usable for me. I take an angled skew and round the "short heel" so, when I place the chisel on the rest, it is less likely to "catch" the heel. Experimentation is a great thing as long as a) you don't hurt yourself and b) you learn something from each attempt. Buy a cheap skew and play with it.
