The first glue up being only 1/2" square had to be very accurately mounted in order that the center was at the joining of the 2 contrasting woods. The method I used was to mount it in my metal lathe using a 5C 1/2" square collet I then used a center drill on each end of the blank and turned one end down to 1/2" round to fit the round collet on the wood lathe. The wood lathe was then used to turn the entire length to 1/2" round in the first photo. The second photo is to expose the cross design and a 5/16" (8mm) tennon for mounting to a box lid.
