Smoking CA

I had a punky piece of spalted sugarberry. I reinforced the tenon with thin CA. As soon as it hit, the CA started vaporizing. I'm thinking it has something to do with the minerals in the spalting but I have never experienced that before. Have any of you?

I have had smoking CA glue for sure; no spalting involved with my experience!

If I remember correctly, cellulose is an accelerant for CA. Perhaps the spalting process exposed some raw cellulose that is normally enclosed in the cell wall of the wood.

I don't use it often. It seems that if I remember correctly, the more water there is in the wood, the more smoke I get. CA glue is the only one that will bond with wet wood that I know of.

It's smoke. You can catch a cotton ball on fire with CA glue.

Vaporized CA is what it is. I got a whiff of it and it wasn't pleasant.

Yes Spalted punky wood will often accelerate CA and you get crystal like foaming and "smoking", burns your eyes if you get any on you.

Don't get any on your fingers of that, you will regret it, I have has blisters from it

It feels like the vapour is fast setting on contact with the wet surface of my eyes.... quite nasty!

I expect it does similar to your bronchi if you inhale it.

I wear a PAP mask if I think it might do this.
