Does anyone have any experience in keeping jaws permanently mounted on the slides(base jaws/backing jaw as they are called by Oneway/Vicmarc) and just remove the safety/stop pin so that you can screw the jaws all the wat out and just put in the other set already mounted on the slides?

Ditto. Just buy more chucks one for each set of jaws you want, problem solved. With a little patience , one can often find bargain used deals on eBay from folks selling something they don't realize what they have. (My last Supernova 2 I got for $49 plus shipping used, it arrived looking like new... paid less for the chuck than the set of nova jaws I wanted it for!)

Oh yeah as far as changing out jaw SLIDES while jaws are mounted on them, I can imagine all sorts of alignment problems, they'd have to be started in exactly the correct order, or they won't align properly... Easier and less troublesome to simply change the jaws (I read on other thread you mention worrying about messing up the screws - They are easily replaceable items so I always have an extra set just in case... and as far as stripping the sockets (or breaking the hex key or that painful snap when they first loosen) that's caused by overtightening them. It is very, very easy to overtighten the jaw screws - so I quickly learned to just run them in until I couldn't turn the shaft of the hex key in my fingers (not the L tang of it) like rolling a pencil (screw's "just snug") and then give it only 1/4 of a turn extra (or get a torque screwdriver and set it to 10 to 15 inch pounds) that'll be PLENTY tight enough for those countersunk screws

I went with the buy more chucks camp and have a chuck for every set of jaws i use on a regular basis. If you have not bought into a chuck system yet easywood makes a chuck with quick release jaws. You just insert the tool in the end of each jaw and it slides out. There not cheap your paying for convenience.

I don’t have any Vicmarc chucks and only one Oneway Talon chuck that their #2 profile jaws live on, so can’t comment on those brands as far as jaws mounted on slides. I started out with Nova chucks and was buying a new chuck every time I needed a set of jaws. I sold all the Nova chucks and switched to Axminster chucks. Instead of buying a new chuck for a set of jaws I just buy the jaw slides. It is much more cost effective for me to buy a set of slides instead of a new chuck especially for those jaws only used once or twice a year. Storage was also a problem.

The Easy Chuck is worth looking at. It seems to be very solid, and it takes seconds to swap out different jaws. The only problem I have with it is that it doesn't have jaw sizes comparable to Vicmark, which everything I have is geared to the Vicmark chucks.

I have not experienced any alignment problems changing jaws on my Axminster chucks with slides mounted. Easy to do just start jaw 1 followed by 2,3, and 4. Much easier than messing with the screws.

I have a Supernova 2 which had a stop in in one of the chuck jaws. Even after removing it the chuck jaws still wouldn’t wind out of the chuck body.
I’m not sure why the pin was in there in the first place? but hopefully the OneWay and Vicmarc are different.

Edit: It looks like the OneWay Jaws are fine.

I have two Axminster Evolution SK114 chucks. I bought accessory mounts for six sets of jaws and find my setup very user friendly. It takes getting used to the first few times but after that changing jaws is easy. I now use my direct thread Vicmarc 120 solely for coring very large blanks as it has 8" jaws (Axminster does not to my knowledge).
