Hello everyone,
I work for a bank in cyber security. I am married for 22 years, we have three daughters. Two dachshunds are part of everyday life of the family.
In January 2000 the first lathe arrived in my workshop. Yes, I know, it's not a long time, but I've enjoyed using it (actively) ever since and have been able to make dozens of objects with it.
There are several craftswomen/men in my family and making and repairing things was part of everyday life as a child. After I started my independent life, it somehow disappeared from my life without me noticing. I realised how much I missed creating when one of my friends invited me to a lure-swap challenge, and I really enjoyed it. I realised how much I missed it. From there, it was a few steps to do a carpentry course, set up my 3-container workshop at the end of the garden and equip it with machinery. My creative profile was transformed when the first lathe arrived. Since then I have an 100+ years old another lathe for renewal and for use.
I started late, but I enjoy learning and developing. It's a bit strange looking back at some of my early pieces, but they are part of the process and I have plenty of room for improvement.
I came here because the subject of guilloche caught my interest. I think that woodturning is a universal topic that connects cultures, so I hope you don't mind that I registered here despite living far from the USA.

Greetings, Tamas. I don't think anyone has a problem with living so far from USA - We have lots of international members, European, Australian, in fact I think we've got members from pretty much every continent (well maybe not Antarctica? LOL!) I'm not terribly familiar with International programs, but I do know that AAW has several International things going on, so perhaps the first A in AAW may have to change to an I. Looks like some nice work there, and if you have been turning since 2000, then you got about 20 years head start on me. :)
