Hello everyone,
I work for a bank in cyber security. I am married for 22 years, we have three daughters. Two dachshunds are part of everyday life of the family.
In January 2000 the first lathe arrived in my workshop. Yes, I know, it's not a long time, but I've enjoyed using it (actively) ever since and have been able to make dozens of objects with it.
There are several craftswomen/men in my family and making and repairing things was part of everyday life as a child. After I started my independent life, it somehow disappeared from my life without me noticing. I realised how much I missed creating when one of my friends invited me to a lure-swap challenge, and I really enjoyed it. I realised how much I missed it. From there, it was a few steps to do a carpentry course, set up my 3-container workshop at the end of the garden and equip it with machinery. My creative profile was transformed when the first lathe arrived. Since then I have an 100+ years old another lathe for renewal and for use.
I started late, but I enjoy learning and developing. It's a bit strange looking back at some of my early pieces, but they are part of the process and I have plenty of room for improvement.
I came here because the subject of guilloche caught my interest. I think that woodturning is a universal topic that connects cultures, so I hope you don't mind that I registered here despite living far from the USA.
