Dennis, there are several ways to search through the gallery. I'll try to post a thread on how to navigate through the gallery in the next few days.

The problem that I see with the second video is that it was shot in portrait orientation. It needs to be in landscape orientation to fit the video format. Another possibility is that your camera settings for orientation may be turned off if the camera actually was in landscape while filming. What online service are you using to host the videos?

Regarding your banner photos, perhaps I need to remind members about the rules regarding the purpose of the gallery since it has been dormant for five months. The image gallery is strictly for displaying your completed turnings. Any other photos posted in in the gallery will be deleted. Any other image that you wish to use in a message posted in the forum can be either uploaded directly to the forum from your computer or embedded if the image is one that you have on an online photo hosting site.
 
Ok did not know about image rule. Was mostly testing it out. Will change them when I get home. I am over due for a photo shoot abyways.

The second video is from Facebook video and linked here. Again it was mostly testing things out
 
Regarding your comment about images being cropped to a square format, I also encountered that when I tried to post an image from the gallery using my iPad. However, things worked correctly when I used my desktop computer to post the image. I attributed it to my clumsy use of the iPad, but I will try to see if the problem was my fault or if it was elsewhere.

I installed a freebie app on my iPad called SimpleResize that allows me to resize images and save in either JPG or PNG format, but it still doesn't tell me the file size in bytes.

Normally, the rule is a maximum of four images per day to the photo gallery, but I think that we might consider lifting that limit to allow members to restore their photos posted after August 11, 2014 that were lost due to the hacking that took place in January of this year. It's a painful lesson that hackers, apparently lacking a moral compass, are seemingly indiscriminant in their behavior.

I see you are an AAW member, so I set you up with club privileges (secret handshake to follow).
You are now at 25MB of storage and 2MB max file size. But thats easy to burn up.

This issue seems to now be fixed. If you are experiencing a problem where you still need to repeatedly log in please let us know.
 
This may not officially be considered a bug, but it's guaranteed to drive me nuts. Not sure about others, depends on if anyone else prints things from the forum. I printed out a nicely detailed post about finishing with poly, and the print is extremely tiny. Is there any way to get the default print-out size to at least 12? Otherwise, printing (for me) will involve copying to a WP program, resizing and then printing.:(
 
The print size depends on settings in whatever you are using to print the posts. Just as a sanity check on myself, I tried my two favorite ways of printing this thread and everything came out looking like normal size text to me.

My usual way of printing something that I find on the web is to highlight what I want to print by either doing a click and drag or a CTRL-A if I want the whole page followed by CTRL-C and then in Microsoft Word I click on a blank document CTRL-V to paste it into the document. You can use this to print whatever you highlight, but I don't print backgrounds. Whenever I use this method, the typeface and point size are determined by Word.

I also tried using my browser, Firefox by clicking on File > Print and the results are essentially the same as looking at a page on the screen ... easily readable. The main difference between using Word or my browser is that the the browser prints the whole layout of of the page which can be a big waste of paper and ink.

As a last ditch way to get things right, you could copy text into Notepad which strips out all formatting and then copy and paste that into a word processor document.

Yep, I know about all the various ways of getting around things, just hoping to be able to print straight from the page. On the majority of web pages I might want to print from, the font size isn't noticeably different from what I see on the screen, so the teeny-tiny print was a surprise. What I do here is highlight the text I want, CTRL+P and choose Print Selection. At the old forum, there was a print function -- available under Thread Tools (I think). Or, I could print the whole thing off by pretending I was going to reply, and printing the simply-formatted posts that would appear then.

I'll try opening the forum in Chrome instead of IE and see if that makes a difference. Not a Firefox user at the moment.

Using my computer, I did the same thing that you said that you did and the printing looks normal.

I revisited the old forum, and under thread tools is "Show a Printable Version" which remove the graphics, but the text size is the same. It is a convenient way to print without manually selecting and pasting into a word processor. However, that doesn't change the texting.

OK, I just duplicated your problem using my wife's computer (still running XP) with a much smaller screen and using any browser. I found that the text size varies inversely with the size of the browser window so I suspect that it might have something to do with table width specified as a fixed number versus a percentage of window size.

First, here is a screenshot of a print preview when I have the browser window set to full screen. I highlighted the text in your post, hit CTRL-P and then in the printer menu I chose "Selection".

Next, I changed the size of the browser window to about half of the screen width and repeated the above steps and the results were:

The bottom line is that I can't answer your question about what is the cause, but I would say that it is something that we probably can't change. The drawback of the method that you use is that it produces a lot of white space.

I keep trying to post images for a new thread and get a "file too large" prompt. It's a jpeg, 72 dpi, and I've downsized it as follows:
  • 1600 x 1496
  • 1200 x 1122
  • 1000 x 935
File size ranged from 1.1 MB to 208 kb and won't upload. I also have a small video I wanted to post in the same thread. It was the first file I was adding to the thread. Is this a settings issue or is the forum not recognizing me as a member of the AAW? Did the AAW kick me out for not going to Atlanta? :D

I can't replicate the photo issue.it appears that photos in posts are limited to 1MB
I took a 1920x1920 photo, that's 544k logged in as both a standard user and an AAW member and was able to include it in a post as bith a thumbnail and a full image.

How are you trying to do this?

The video part is still up for debate because of how much storage it would take.
You can embed a link to the video from Vimeo or YouTube, or other sites

That was also my conclusion. The other limits that we have apply only to the gallery and I don't believe that we currently have a way to automatically limit the maximum number of images uploaded per day to the gallery.

Right, I'm familiar with the file size limitations which is why when I saw it was too large I resized it. But the final file size of 200 KB still would not upload and gave me the same prompt. o_O

Steve, thank you. I will link to the video. However as for the still images, I'm just using Photoshop, RGB, 72 dpi and my JPEG settings are at 10 which is not maximum file quality but close.

I checked the file properties, and the smallest size i output was a JPEG At 208k, which also prompted the same error message

Chris, what is the file size of your images that are generating an error message? For me it didn't matter what size it was, I got the same error message.

Yes, using the <UPLOAD FILE> button. Ironically, there's an image of the error message, below. :).

So here's the best I can figure out, since it happened after I tried to upload a 1.1x MB image. Although I had downsampled the image and tried to upload again, perhaps Chrome (the browser I use) had cached the file, and was referencing the original document in cache since they were the same name. And shrinking the file resolution - and file size also in the process - had no effect because Chrome was simply using the same file. I'm assuming that the browser functions somewhat like an OS, so when you choose the button which is merely a link or URL pointer, it's sort of like an API call to the OS to handle a file?

Does this sound reasonable? The reason I say it is that, after the repeated attempts, I closed the browser and then brought up task manager (Win 7x) and, because Chrome throws off multiple processes like crazy, I ended the process tree.

So now I just launched it again and the file loaded no problem (it can be seen at the Main Forum - "Music boxes - input anyone?".

Anyway, it seems to be working now and so it apparently was not a bug and was me. You know, "it's not you; it's me" :D

yes i've tried the upload a file button with 3 different photos, jpg photos one is 900kb one is 1200 and one is 2200 and everytime a box pops up and says the uploaded file is too large.

Do all the files have the same name or do you rename them when you down sample them? The 1200 kB and 2200 kB files are both over the 1 MB (1000 kB) file size limit. If you gave the 900 kB file the same name as the others that could be the problem (see Mark's post). Another thing is sometimes 900 kB isn't 900 kB depending on how you measure it.

This is a test

I deliberately created a file that was too large at 1.77 MB and 2200 X 1800 pixels and as expected, the results was the message that Mark showed in his post.. Next, I cropped the size down to a more reasonable, but still quite large 1456 X 1449 pixels and didn't change the JPG quality. (I generally use a quality setting of 10 out of a maximum value of 12 in Photoshop). The cropped image has a file size of 973 kB which is just under the limit of 1000 kB.

Geez, I almost posted about this possibility. I've had the same type thing happen several times, mostly when sending an email, so I've gotten in the habit of always doing a "Save as" and putting a number or some other change in the name.

Which is a free browser plugin that allows you to do a variety of things with a web page including capturing and printing, it making a screenshot of all or just a small portion, saving it as a graphic or a .pdf file, etc. I use this on a daily basis for my day-job at The Ohio State University. It's a fantastic app.
