A donated item, have no idea what this is. 16" long, 7/8 diameter. Has a small V shape flute

Looks sort of like the guidepost for an old Delta 14” bandsaw. The stock post is 10” long, but this could be one made for modifying the saw with the 6” riser block.

Is there a hole tapped at the other end ???

If so, I'd say its a bandsaw guide post too.

This gun drill holder was machined from a circa 1961 Delta 14" BSaw however the replacement that came with the 6" riser block kit was a 7/8" round with 1 V groove but no taped hole in either end. The finish plating on the new one was dull silver gray just like the original.
That post could be from a knock off and or one built after the US factory had closed or from who knows what.

The bar has a hole at one end with no threads, and the color is black. Thank you all for your help.
