Now that winter is already half way thru, I would like to try to turn hats.
I have no idea where to start from, whether I need a mould… basically I know noting about it.
Do you have some clues about where I could find a demo or an well done explanation?.
Thanks in advance and… have a good Sunday! :)

Claude,
Johannes teaches in Europe about every year.
Usually in Denmark.

Denmark and hats. Now where have I heard those words associated recently?

Guy up north of me says the secret is twisted-grained aspen ("popple"), lathe speed, and spray bottles to keep things wet. If ever there was a case for sequential cutting to final thickness rather than sweeping rim to base, a hat qualifies.

Johannes came and did a demo for my Technology Education class at the school I teach at. He did a very nice job on the hat. I bought the video and it is worth every penny!!!!

p.s. I got the full size hat as well as a mini hat and a bowl
