Turning a spinning top - Glenn Lucas Ireland

Jeff if you can find his video, it is well worth the $$ spent.
Would highly recomend Glenn's video for beginners.
 
It looks like Glenn Lucas is using the same wood for his demonstrations. Does anyone know what kind of wood he's using? It does seem to be easily turned......
