I was turning a hollow form and in the end, I did not have a tool that could reach far enough laterally. So while the top was quite thin, the outside wall was up to an inch thick. I thought on it for a couple days. I made a 7/16 diameter jam chuck and put the bowl back up on the lathe then took a parting tool and cut off the top and turned it into a cover. Then I finished carving out the part of the bowl I could not reach.
