Ladybug is a marvelous piece. The exquisite curve will catch your eye across a room. A closer look will reward you with an intricately carved geometric pattern, stippling detail, and inlaid cabochons from NIP knots all of which is complemented by an almost too bold rim treatment.





Twelve-inch Norfolk Island pine hollowform. Turned, carved, textured, painted with glossy Norfolk knot inlays. Finished in satin lacquer.

I usually don’t like a piece that has the grain obfuscated by the finish.

Neither do I, actually.....but, when it's done so cleanly and elegantly, it's hard to ignore it's positive aspects.

I will agree with Breck - an exquisite piece. It would be equally exquisite if it was ceramic or glass. To my thinking, highlighting the wood would only take away.
And most important, you nailed the curve - the fair curve makes it all come together. Again, if you elected a natural finish, the design, and especially the graceful curve, would be lost.
