It’s almost time to put a wrap on 2025 and look who gets to choose the final TOTW for 2025…a Segmenter. I’m honored to choose Sicilian Mosaic by @Pat White. This is Segmented Woodturning at its absolute best on every level. Start with an outstanding form with a solid continuous curve through the feature ring and an outstanding transition through the shoulders and into the throat…no easy task. The alignment of the segments is superb as is the placement of the feature ring and details. While the placement of Pat’s inspiration into the photo is a bit distracting, it is more than made up for by showing his exacting mimicry of the mosaic pattern that caught his eye…impressive! I would also like to note Pat’s frugal use of “hard to get” exotic hardwoods it this piece. He has actually shown the beautiful woods off better by limiting their use thus cleverly highlighting them!! The Maple body is a perfect pallet to show off Pat’s feature details. This piece is a Grand Slam and congratulations on this outstanding piece Pat!

Thanks Russ!

Congratulations, Pat. Excellent work for all the reasons mentioned by Russ (and he should know!). Very nice form - not always the case with segmented work, IMHO. Good choice, Russ.
