My selection for Turning of the Week for March 20, 2023 is "Twisted" by Alan Miotke. Such an interesting piece. A stunning product of topological vision cut from a pleasing curve. Alan stated that he cut apart a segmented vase form to make it. He makes it sound soooo simple…..

Nice choice Al! It takes some gumption to take a perfectly good vessel and cut it apart. Al Miotke’s excellent texturing techniques then create the interior gem that’s uncovered! Excellent piece and idea Mr Miotke!!

I was surprised and honored when I say this selection. Thanks for the selection Al.

Sal, Unfortunately I did not take any in process photos. Basically, I turned a segmented vase then used a variety of power tools to cut away what I did not want. After that it was a lot of clean up with rotary cutters, files, and sandpaper. The inside is textured then painted with about 10 layers of acrylics. Hope that helps a little.

Oh, that makes perfect sense! I was thinking of a more complicated process. You may have inspired me to take your lead in trying this in the future!
