Turning of the Week September 11, 2023

I never thought picking out a TOTW would be so difficult when I signed on for this! There has been so many fabulous embellished turnings posted in the past few weeks, that they make this choice difficult......and those great works of art tend to overshadow the few "pure" turned pieces we see. Alas, I had already "preplanned" my intention to pick something that shows great toolwork and highlights woodturning in its pure form. This one "Kingwood Elegant Box" by Gabriel Hoff has been on my mind, and I've revisited it several times to further strengthen, and understand my subliminal aesthetic impressions when I first laid eyes upon it. I hope others get the same, almost spiritual reactions that I did, and do! Sometimes, all those things that make great art just seem to fall into place, and as we look back, seems like there may have been some spiritual hand laid upon our shoulder while it was being created.
