Turning tools from allen wrenches

Allen Tools

John Lucas has made quite a few allen wrenches into turning tools. He turns some very small...correction - micro size... pieces. If you'll search his posts you're likely to find some. He's on Wood Central a lot, also.

I used to make a lot of smaller tools from Allen wrenches but now I use Drill Rod. Sometimes the hex shape can be a problem but it's easy to grind just about any cutting tip you want on a round rod. You can also get complete instructions on the annealing, hardening and tempering process with each type of drill rod. I use 0-1 because it's annealed and hardened with water. You can get it from lots of different metal suppliers really inexpensive.

Gary,
Sorry about the facetious answer. I made a tool similar to Mike's to do captive rings also. No picture, as much better examples than mine are available.
