I am wondering if anybody else on the forum has been approached via email with a request for a quote on making 30 custom bowls of a specific size, and engraved on the side or on the bottom with the name of a farm?

I ask because this recently happened to me when I got an inquiry from an unknown person claiming that they found my name on a list of woodturners in Illinois. I didn't know that I'm on a list.

I took it as a serious query for a while, but then little red flags started popping up, like not being able to communicate by phone as one example.

I backed out.

One can find anything on the Internet including shoe size and favorite ice cream. Unknown would be the first red flag. If they don't offer any kind of identification, information for the inquiry, etc., forget it. Tom, good move.
