Ah, the inscrutable oriental mind. There is a video, Trout Grass, that traces the pilgrimage of bamboo from the Tonkin area of China to a rod building shop in Montana. They loaded the bamboo culms on wagons pulled by people, if my memory serve me. BTW, the fellow who coordinates the harvest and sale of the bamboo is Hoagie Carmichael, Junior, son of the famous entertainer.
Cartoon- Two guys in Roman togas with blueprints and unfinished buildings in the background. "If it wasn't for the red tape, we could build it in a day."

I did watch the whole thing. It's quite obvious that OSHA doesn't exist in other parts of the world. It's also pretty amazing the skills out there.

I recall seeing a show about men in India using cutting torches to cut up old ships for recycling the steel. They were working around chemicals, oil, diesel fuel, asbestos, etc. for the equivalent of about ten cents a day. There was no evidence of any kind of safety equipment.

Bangladesh is where the world's largest and most dangerous ship graveyard exists. It was featured in a National Geographic article as well as at least a couple television documentaries. There are numerous YouTube videos.
