Ah, the inscrutable oriental mind. There is a video, Trout Grass, that traces the pilgrimage of bamboo from the Tonkin area of China to a rod building shop in Montana. They loaded the bamboo culms on wagons pulled by people, if my memory serve me. BTW, the fellow who coordinates the harvest and sale of the bamboo is Hoagie Carmichael, Junior, son of the famous entertainer.
