In Jerry's video he talks about tilting the blade to cut wedges for segmented rings. It allows using the two fences in a whole new way. Here are two rings done at a first cut. I still need to work with them.
He also described how to set the center between the guides a ways off center when setting the angle so the ring glues up with the intersections on top of the ring angled to the radius.

Yes, it is hard to see in picture but the top ring is done that way. I set the fences to cut 8 wedges, only cut 10. The 10 adds up to 450 degree circle so you need to subtract 90 degrees. I do this by adding 5 reversed cut wedges at 18 degrees. The result is 72 degrees -- 2 cut at 45 and one reversed cut at 18.
