Hello all, I am WH.

I started turning in 1973 at a small Teacher College in West Virginia, Graduated in 1976 with an Industrial Technology degree, and started teaching in eastern Ohio the next school year. 8 years teaching in three different districts, laid off three times through "Reduction in Force".

We moved to Kentucky in 1986, I could not find a teaching job, so I started with a Commercial Construction Company as a laborer. I left them after 15 years as a Foreman / Project Manager. I then went to work for The State of Kentucky as a Manager for the Construction Branch. We did repair and renovation projects in the Finance Cabinet owned buildings, including the Capitol.

I retired in 2020 and have been working daily in my wood shop since.

I set up my shop at my present location, in 1989. It is a detached one car garage with enough tools in it to fill a 40' by 80' building. It is rather tight spaced, but I make due. I turned a bit, mostly when a job related project was needed.

Around 2016, I started turning bowls, and I have had a chunk of wood on the lathe since.

I am looking forward to talking to craftsman that know the lathe, exchange ideas and techniques.

The Gallery is superb, the new project ideas it creates!

Thanks for letting me be part of this Board.

Welcome WH! If you need any help with the forums please reach out. Looking forward to seeing some of your work here.

Small world, I was born in 86 here in Frankfort haha. Went from a 2.5 car garage at our last house to a one car, had bought all large tools so it's rather cramped now. Hoping to build a barn to have a shop in one of these days out here, we live near Elkhorn creek in the northern part of the county.

Welcome aboard, WH. Nice shop. It isn’t crowded yet because I can see some bare spots on the floor and shelves.

Bill, quick, where do you see space, I need to hang more stuff!

Thanks for the reply, This site has built a new fire in me, I have been turning almost daily since 2016. It was getting mundane to turn "another bowl".

Looking at the Gallery and Challenge threads and seeing what the Artists of this board do, I am in awe.

I am glad to be a part of it.
