Finishing up a Black Cherry serving bowl as gift for my mom on Mother's Day. This will be about 11" x 3.75" when finished. Just added the first coat of danish oil. I don't make many open bowls like this, so it's a nice change of pace. I added a couple of mediocre beads to the exterior for a bit of functionality.

1/2 inch tool handle. Finally got around to using the one way ferrule I bought back when I started.

Hedge apple wood polished and waxed.

I was sneaking up on it for the taper under the ferrule. Must have really surprised it because instead of it being a screw on ferrule it's an epoxied on ferrule now. hmm drinking thread. how many times can I use the word ferrule in a post..........

Cherry is my favorite, nothing like putting that first coat of oil on a finished piece. Looks great!

The start of a walnut crotch hollow vessel, probably an urn. Most of the feather figure will be turned away of course, but I can’t stomach the thought of a cylindrical urn. There will be a few small cracks to deal with later during the second turning when it is dried. About 9 inches long, 6 inches in distance. IMG_1980.jpeg

Panning for Montana gold, with Betsy, the mule!
Pyinma burl.... aka: Asian Satinwood. According to the wood database, the term Asian Satinwood is incorrect, but is a widely used term. I think I'll continue to use the term, simply because Asian Satinwood has more "appeal" ! :)

Has my "signature" undercut rim.

Extremely porous....really soaked up a lot of DO.....fast!

Easy to turn.
