Wow, Bart, you must be turning (or plan to turn) some really huge stuff if you need an eight incher.

Bill I wasn't particularly looking for an 8" face plate a 3"-6" will do.I just want to know they are available for the Grizzly lathe to round up the wood & shape the bottom & turn a tennon for the chuck. I seems strange the Grizzly lists 1"x8 tpi & 1 1/2"x8 tpi but no 1 1/4" x 8 tpi for their smaller face plates. They make the smaller lathes & the 1 1/4" but don't make a 1 1/2" lathe so I wonder what gives here.

Actually a large faceplate can come in handy. You can put the screws in the outer part of the wood so that they clear what will be the bottom of the bowl. Turn the inside and then reverse the bowl and turn away the screw holes and the rest of the outside and bottom.

Some things just defy explanation.

John, your clever ideas never cease to amaze.

I have a 6 inch face plate that came with my lathe, but I have never used it to hold wood. I designed a strobe disk with a CAD program and then used to face plate to hold it and measured the RPM of my lathe.

Grizzly's paper catalog shows 1-1/4 x 8, 6" faceplates for G0698, G0632, and G0694. Your user's manual should list such a faceplate as a "repair" part, even though it doesn't seem to be listed as an independent accessory. Why not contact Grizzly regarding cost and delivery?

A faceplate, or several of them, can be the most robust and accurate means of attaching work. For turning of raw timber, just make the blank large enough for screws in the waste. It's better than adding tiny feet afterwards. BTDT.
