Yesterday my wife noticed that a recent blog posting by the gallery where I sell my work featured a walnut piece made by me. I'm a bit chuffed that of all the work in the gallery they chose one of my pieces to feature in that post.

That aside, this post to the forum is about the excellent words written in that blog that encapsulates the role and importance of the handmade and the support of that within a community. This forum is a virtual community, which can also serve that function wherever you practice your making.

It is easy in forums like this to gravitate to the technical and functional aspects of our craft, but it is good to be reminded of the value of what we do for (and receive from) this and the wider supporting community.

 
Beautiful work in that studio. My off topic question is the BP station around the corner, is the price per liter or gallon?
 
I always buy locally when ever possible. The money stays in the home town. I never buy anything on Amazon. I was chatting with a friend who did the local home and garden show and they commented about how people would come in to window shop, then buy on line. While I don't do the craft shows any more, I used to trade for all of my Christmas presents.
