Anyone recognize this wood? As dark, maybe a little darker than walnut when finished, dense, waxy, stringy. I applied some eee to show the finish, but it has an exudate that comes comes out and i had to use a clean rag to clean it off. The exudate has a greenish tint to it. It has an almost pungent root beer smell; different than sassafras.

I bought it out of the bargain bin at the Sterling heights Woodcraft, so i have no idea.

I'm trying to post a pic, but not sure how from my phone

Hey, Bret

Have you checked the Knowledge Base on Woodweb?

http://www.woodweb.com/index.html

If it's not already posted, you can ask Gene Wengert (a.k.a. The Wood Doctor) & I'd bet he could identify it for you.

If you send him a picture, that is, heh-heh.:D
