Wooden ice scoop?

I use a small plastic scoop for ice in the freezer. If I made a wooden one and left it in the ice receptacle in the freezer would it hold up to freezing?

I think every freezer now has auto defrost. So the wood will see some temperature changes. Not sure what will happen.

A magnet would hold the scoop on the door of the freezer and might generate questions and conversation.

The health department doesn't like when the scoop is left in the ice machine.
