Most likely from Mexico, but possibly Central America, Bocote is a very oily wood that clogs sandpaper, but excels in it's final result. Not difficult to turn. All Bocote seems to have nice grain patterns. Excellent contrasting colors.
Odie, Your ability to make fine wood come alive is top-notch! ‘A beautiful piece. How much of your time is spent searching for blanks - you seem to have an endless supply of outstanding material.

As always Odie a beautiful piece, though I think you could use some more light when making your pictures, I took the liberty to show what more light brings to the picture, probably not exactly right, but better IMO
I will show it in he discussion forum .

I'm using natural sunlight for the photos I take with my camera, and artificial light with the photos I take with my cell phone. This one was taken with my camera. I can lighten it up a bit with my photo software. All these photos are adjusted to where I think they look best, so I guess it's all a matter of personal preference. I'll take a look at what you come up with, though.....and, thank you for giving me your opinion...
