A River Begins

This burl was found on the Gulf Coast after Hurricane Katrina and was given to me by a contractor who found it on the beach and has no idea where it came from and no one has any idea what this wood is. There was a kind of pine smell, more when sanding than turning though, friction, I guess. Any ideas on the species I would like to hear them. Mike
That is a new species to me, where does it grow? This piece is very heavy for its size, is that a characteristic of Bois d'Arc?
Thanks,
Mike
