Black Egg

For some time now I've been thinking of doing an egg that was decorated on both the inside and the outside. The inside had to be done first with a thin layer of Maple covered by a thin layer of Bloodwood. The pattern is cut through the layers with the ornamental lathe

Then, the issue was how to hold the work for decorating the outside. I ended up by threading the halves and making a matching threaded chuck out of scrap wood to hold each half while turning the outside.

African Blackwood, Maple, Bloodwood, clear acrylic (for the base). Overall size is 5.2" tall (the egg is 3" diameter and 4" long).
I just stumbled onto this one while cruising for ornament ideas. This is spectacular! Amazing imagination to conceive it and excellent skill (and tremendous patience) to execute. Spectacular!
