Ken, as sure as I can possibly be. The tracks were all red when it was fresh cut. I still have some of the log w/ bark on. If you think it might be something else I'd be glad to know, want me to take a pic of a log? It is not silver maple, which sometimes around here shows ambrosia marks, but this wood is much "whiter"
 
George, this has been amazing. I have had all sorts of people, experts, amateurs, etc.. telling me it can be just about everything, red maple, sugar maple, box elder, silver maple, and "ambrosia maple", which as far as I can tell is simply a maple tree with an ambrosia beetle infestation, not a species. All have been absolutely certain of themselves. At least one of you guys is right, that is for sure. At this point, I don't care, though it might be worth examination of the pore structure just for grins. Thanks for your input.
