Burgundy Crescendo
Burgundy Crescendo

Burgundy Crescendo won $150.00 in prize money at this year's 28th Annual International Design in Wood exhibition in Del Mar, California. I formed this piece in February using Purpleheart, Maple, African Blackwood, Ebony, and Bloodwood. The Blackwood rectangles have a purple cast which ties in nicely with the body. This vessel has a 3/16" (5mm) thickness tapering to a knife edge at the rim. I inlaid the 1/8" thick Bloodwood triangle after the bowl was turned (to center it) with a sharp chisel. The lacquer finish fills the grain and was polished to an optical quality high gloss then waxed.
