Butterfly Caught in the Web

The piece was made for the January 2008 "Art of a Community" gallery exhibition.

This 9" x 3" carved sycamore vessel was inspired from the BBC series based on Paul Scott's novel "The Jewel in the Crown". Bobbie Bachelor passes down to Sarah Layton a beautiful lace shawl with butterflies seemingly trapped in a web as is the purity of love caught in the web of jealousy and greed, or the jewel that was India trapped in the web of imperialism.
Dang, you have been busy, e! These are beautiful, but this is the only one I can see the photo on - only the thumbnails on the close-up and the boxes. :( Hope that gets fixed soon so I can look.
