Catalpa Bowls

A while ago a couple that I trail ride with gave me some Catalpa wood. I gave the first bowl that I finished to them. They had acquired the wood from a neighbor and want to buy a bowl to give to their neighbor. I wanted to give them some choices so I finished three of different sizes. I like the look of the grain of Catalpa but it is certainly not a favorite to finish. There is quite a difference in the hardness of the grain that makes it easy to over sand.

The top left and is about 13 ¾” x 3 ½”. The smallest one is on the top right one is 11” x 3”. The largest one on the bottom is 17 ½” x
James, very nice pieces. I picked up and finished some Catalpa recently. Grows here but not common and usually very large trees that seldom get cut down. You're right, it has a nice look but not something I'll put high on my list to seek out again.
