This is the sixth of these that I've made. Those of you who have seen some of the earlier ones will recognize some progress. It definitely takes multiple tries to become practiced in this sort of thing.

The "Onion Dome" top was inspired by the domes on Saint Basil's Cathedral in Moscow. Decoration was done on an ornamental lathe.

The wood is Bubinga, Maple, and African Blackwood. Size is 7.4" high.

Beautiful! Marvelous craftsmanship. I'm curious, did you make the internal cylinders out of blackwood, as single pieces with the ends, or did you use separate material and insert?

Dean -- the internal cylinder was made of Maple which fit into the bottom Blackwood end. The code rings (also made of Maple) rotate on a section of Bubinga. There are 6 separate sections of Bubinga (with a tenon for the maple code ring) that fit into the next Bubinga section. The last Bubinga section fits onto the top Blackwood dome. It's hard to describe without pictures, so I hope this helps.
