Heavily Spalted Platter
Doug Freeman

Heavily Spalted Platter

15" D x 2" T, Spalted Elm, Wet sanded wipe on poly finish. The piece had some soft spots creating tear out. Several "coats" of wet sanding were used to create a sludge, used to fill the tear out. Its a very simple form, the color and grain are the "show".
Absolute stunner, Doug. I can imagine the difficulty in mitigating tearout, but you’ve achieved something very cool. The plate has the appearance that it was treated with reactive paints. How neat is that!
