Here's Looking At You

Elm 9" high x 7" wide Mahogany top with matching acrylic on the ribs. I have always admired J. Paul Fennell's work. This piece was inspired by his work.

WARNING!! If you don't have a lot of time and a ton of patience DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME.

My first mistake was to use Elm. When it dried it was harder than concrete. Carving was, for the most part impossible. I had to use my We-Cheer and a course burr to hog out the waste material following up with a lot of 60 grit lock discs to get down to the wall thickness I wanted. Piercing done with a Dremel and tile cutting bit.
Sounds like quite an effort, but it came out great. Very interesting piece. Fun to look at.
