Homage to Clay Foster

Here is my latest entitled "African Water Carrier". The inspiration was a National Geographic photo of an African maiden (early teens) carrying a large water container on her head, perfectly balanced ... no hands ... walking down a dirt road.

Of course the "homage" is to Clay Foster whose friendship and influence on my work these past few years is clearly evident. I hope I have done him some small justice.

The piece is 46" tall, with a 4 inch thick piece of Indiana sandstone as a base. The body is Indiana walnut, the bowl is curly maple. Finish is wipe on polyacrylic, several coats.

Critiques and comments are as always welcomed.

Stunning piece bowlman! You captured the picture very well in my opinion.

How is it attached to the sandstone?
