Lidded Box

Laminated Cherry Box with Maple insert.
Insert scrollsawed with square design elements.
3 5/8 dia x 3 9/16 Tall.

This was a Challenge piece on another Forum. Start with a 4 x 4 x 4 piece, turn it and incorporate squares in the design.

The design in this lid is my own, conceived during the challenge and drawn up in AutoCAD.

Part of the challenge is to find the squares...

Inspiration for this box came from several sources, not the least of which is from my head. Steve Gray and Kate Noble make a small box similar to this with a snowflake insert. Saw it in Tony Lydgates book, The Art of making Small Wood Boxes. The other source was Patrick Spielmans book, Art of the Lathe, page 62, Potpourri Bowl.
