Maple burl hollow form

Maple burl hollow form

Lots of character for this one. The tree must have lead a harsh life. 10 inch diameter, 7 inches tall. Finished with Osmo Polyx
Michael - I really like what you've done! It's really beautiful.
As a person looking to move up from smaller hollow forms to something closer to this size ( and aspiring to have such a wonderfully challenged access opening, could I ask what hollowing tools you used here? Particulalry your hook tool(s). I only have smaller 3/8" Jefkaski tools at the moment and Christmas is coming (LOL). Well done!

I mainly use the Jamieson system. With the Jamieson I use the half inch diameter Kelton hollowers for smaller pieces and for working the neck area of larger pieces. I use Jamieson's boring bar (3/4") for much of hollowing and it is quite versatile, you can certainly make a shape as this posted one, but I have supplemented his bar with a swan neck bar, also 3/4 inch diameter. Mine is from the Stewart system, which I believe is now part of the Sorby RS 2000 system. I usually use this bar with a tear drop scraper, but it can also use Jamieson's swivel tip.
