OLD pine

We are doing a remodel downtown in a 2 story building built in 1918. The building has had alot of different owners, been through a fire, and finally we are taking the roof off and adding a third story. This means we get to take out all the big timber beams holding the roof up. I couldn't be happier. My dad says this is "old growth pine" (whatever that means). I counted the rings on this particular column which was only 8 inches square. 108 rings. The bowl measures about 4 inches tall by 7 inches around. The post was quite cracked, as is all of them. This is some HARD pine.
very nice
