Redwood Sundae

Redwood Sundae

Over a year ago Charlie Belden came into possession of some old growth redwood root burl. He posted an offer on another forum to share a piece with anyone who would pay the shipping, send him a picture of what they did with it, and make a donation to a charity of their choice.

I'm slow but very steady. Somehow the project got pushed back and procrastination set in. Imagine! I found it recently and finished it.

The pedestal and finial is ebony. Antique Oil and buffed. About 10" tall. My photography does not do the color of the redwood justice.
Mr. Jones, You've done yourself proud! This piece has a nice balanced "feel" to it, the finial and stem repeat style, the profile on the high side of the cup is gently suggestive of the ogee, the base goes very well with the lid, and the flame in the redwood is probably spectacular in real life. Overall, it has an almost antique appearance. Achieving a work such as this doesn't just happen by chance. You have a special talent!

The 2 second "eye test" tells me this is a very well crafted piece indeed, it simply has everything going for it top to toe,
Beautiful piece Chuck :)

Mr. Jones,

The balance, color and craftsmenship give this piece a real old world feel. Something that is timeless and will be remembered forever.

Absolutely gorgeous!!!!!

Chuck-

A beautiful piece of wood turned into an outstanding piece. The muted finish looks great on it, brings it all together.
