Simple Yarn Bowl

Segmented yarn bowl ... pine from a big box store. 6" tall and 6" in diameter, finished with water-based polyurethane. This yarn bowl was turned for a demonstration for our local AAW chapter.
nice segmented work...what was your method of cutting and finishing "J" slot?
I built a router jig similar to the one that appeared in the October 2014 edition of American Woodturner
