Spalted Pecan Bowl

Spalted Pecan Bowl

This bowl was turned from face grained spalted Pecan. The rough turning was done some time in 2010 and left for drying. The finish turning and fluting was performed in 2011. Mahoneys Walnut Oil followed by Mahoneys wax was applied as the finish of choice. This gives a nice natural feel and appearance to the piece, significantly enhancing the spalt lines. The only minor problem which appeared was losing a couple of very tiny spalt pores along flute lines during buffing, which disrupts the sharp edges. I chose to live with it rather than screw up the fluting trying to repair them. The bowl stands 3 high by 5 in diameter.
Thanks Ward. I use a table mounted in the banjo to support a sliding die grinder with burrs and sanding drums.
