Stabile No. 018

Stabile No. 018

Stabile No. 018. Cherry. All parts turned on the lathe. 38" tall, 10" diameter. There are rare earth magnets embedded in the sphere and in the base. The magnets are arranged so the poles are are repelling each other. Once the sphere is given a slight push it will stay in motion for some time since the magnetic field from the base is constantly pushing againts the magnet in the sphere. Also, the sphere will never hang plumb from the support wire due to the arrangement of the magnets.
