Panning for Montana gold, with Betsy, the mule!
Why am I not surprised to see this?

There are burls available commercially, from a few individuals who specialize in harvesting them legitimately from lumber mills and tree surgeons......but, this person apparently is harvesting them from public property. His arrest was appropriate.

Most woodturners would of course never do that on a live tree. However now they've told all the non woodworking jerks with a chainsaw how much they might be worth. It's like telling someone how much the copper in an airconditioning unit is worth. We'll see more now.

What a moron!! Cutting up a burl without permission is a dumb thing, but to do it in the middle of a park or a public garden is STUPID! He deserved to get arrested.
