1906 Goncalo Alves

Finished 2/14/2022. 7 1/2" x 1 7/8". 11.3 oz. Original turning block had 16% MC, and took 6 months to stabilize after roughing and anchorseal. This may not be very large, but has one of the nicest grain patterns I've had with this wood species. Just goes to show that size isn't the most notable feature! Sanded to 600gt, Danish oil natural, Beall 3-step buff.

Odie, that is the darkest piece of GA I've ever seen. Did it start out that way or did the Danish oil change the color? Nice job!

Howdy Tom...... :)

Nothing but the Danish Oil Natural was added. There always is some enhancement of coloring when adding the DO, and it does seem to darken naturally dark woods.

The DO also tends to give a yellowish tinge to white woods.....and, I wish it wouldn't. (There have been discussions about that, and preserving the white wood color seems to be a real bugger for woodworking enthusiasts.)
