1972 Maple Burl.

Finished 2/20/2022.....Maple burl bowl, 9 7/8" x 3 3/16", 14.1 oz. Original block had 16% MC, and after roughing, it took a total of 5 months to stabilize. As is one of my specialties, this bowl has an undercut rim. Sanded to 600gt, Danish oil natural, and Beall 3-step buff.

Odie, I think you need a little more light when taking photos to show off the wood and all the details in your work. As I recall, you like to use natural light...so maybe you should wait for better weather or lighting conditions when taking photos. Or, maybe it's just my old eyes and cataracts! :)

Hi Tom......This bowl was photographed on a cloudy/rainy day, and I agree. I've had the same comment from others. One thing that I've been plagued with is hot spots, on days with more sunlight.....but, I'm still working on it. I also have problems with depth of field, that I think I can improve by moving the camera further away. Still working on these things.....and, I'm such a dummy with cameras. I recently tried using f stops, but eventually went back to auto settings. Better success here, but still have the depth of field issues.

I know what you mean, Odie. I don't know an "f stop" from a bus stop! I probably take a LOT more shots than you do....because I don't know what I'm doing. I take shots with all my different camera modes - with and without lights. It turns out that many of my better shots are with natural light (bright day with some clouds) and with Auto Mode. But, I keep trying....someday I might learn what to do. Kind of like turning!
